Experts,
I will appreciate your inputs on a unique situation.
We have a friend whose father died when she was 2. Her marriage certificate mentions her father's name in the maiden name. The mother was unable to provide for all the children. so my friend has been raised by her uncle. The marriage certificate also mentions the legal guardian's name (paternal uncle) and biological mother's name. Note that no adoption process was undertaken.
Now, when she got her passport after marriage, the "Father/Legal Guardian" name is set to the legal guardian (uncle) and mother's name is set to biological mother. Don't know if it was the mistake on part of my friend or on part of the passport authority or this is how Indian passports are issued.
Is it at all possible to reset the name to biological father's name? This is because the friend would like to apply for work visa and her college certificates mention only biological parents' names.
If anyone has first hand knowledge in such situation, please comment whether
* Indian passport authority uses legal guardian's name in the passport in the absence of adoption papers, based solely on marriage certificate?
* Is it possible to amend the passport to have biological father's name to match with college certificates?
Thanks
