  • SF Consulate: 5 weeks to process Renunciation.

    FYI

    It took 5 weeks to process Renunciation at SF Consulate. I had applied "Renunciation Only" because for some reason SF does not allow OCI and Renunciation to be submitted concurrently. Other consulates such as NY do allow this.

    As I never attended school in India and did not have Indian school certificate or official birth certificate, and no old Indian passport, I was concerned application might get rejected for lack of proof of Indian origin.

    Next step is to apply for OCI. As I recall, the "Indian Origin Proof" section for Renunciation was similar to OCI, so I hope there will be no issue to satisfy OCI Indian Origin proof given that Renunciation application Indian Origin Proof was accepted and approved.

    ==============
    OCI

    Proof of Indian Origin (for Govt.)
    Copy of first three and last two pages of the last Indian Passport held.
    In case of non-availability of Indian passport the decision to accept the mentioned documents as proof of Indian Citizenship will be made by the Embassy/Consular Officer and will be FINAL in such cases.

    (if Indian Passport is not available, any One of the below documents)
    Birth CertificateOR
    Certificate of Indian origin from First Class Magistrate / District MagistrateOR
    Ancestral Nativity Certificate from Indian Official / MagistrateOR
    Educational certificate issued by an institution of India AND Land ownership certificate.
