  • Issue with blurred photo on new passport

I need advice on a specific issue with my newly renewed passport.
I had applied for and received a fresh Indian passport via CKGS in San Francisco in September 2017 since my old one is due to expire in December this year.
The new passport has my photo blurred in the biodata page, even though I had included a properly clear photo in my passport renewal application. I observed that it was noticeably blurred compared to my previous passport’s photo.

I emailed the Indian consulate about the photo being blurred, and they replied that it should be generally fine, but I could apply for re-issue if I wanted to. But my current passport expires in approximately 3 weeks and the processing for a new passport would possibly exceed that deadline. What do you suggest I do regarding this? (Also, my H1B is valid till 2020, in case that matters)

      Hi sunrag1,

They were very non-commital/vague to my queries such as will there be any issues when passing through customs, etc, and also for my query as to how frequent/common this issue was. They essentially said, 'it seems fine, but you can apply for a new one if you want.'. So my primary concern was what would happen if airport customs decided the photo was not satisfactory the next time i enter the US.

Any other similar experiences or any thoughts/comments would be appreciated.
