  • PIO or OCI for US born Child for Indian Parents?

    Hi,

Myself and my wife are indian citizens holding indian passport. Our son (8 months old) born in US and holding US passport. Rightnow we shifted back to india. My son is on Indian Visa for 5 years. I don't have any plans to go back to US in the near future.

    My question is:

    1) Can i apply for OCI for my son? Is he eligible for that?
    2) If he is not eligible for OCI, can i apply for PIO card? If applied for PIO card, does he need to report his stay every 180 days ? Is there any exemption for kids?
    3) Will i be eligible for OCI if i apply for PIO first and then transfer to OCI?
    4) I applied directly in person (washington dc indian consulate) for my son's visa (while coming to india) and i have been informed that, it is not required to report every 180 days since he is a child. Is it true?
    5) My son's visa is valid till 2011. If i apply for a PIO card now, will the 15 years count from 2011 or immediately.

    Please Please advice.

    Thanks in Advance.

    Please help....
