Passport Renewal - NY Consulate - photos size - get passport on same day - regarding

Hello Friends,

I have been to NY consulate, recently, on 12th October, 2007. My purpose of visit is, to Renew my expiring (exp date: Dec, 2007) passport. Usaully, if you go in person - submit your related documents before 11.15 AM at the counter, you are supposed to get your passport by end of the day between 4.30 - 5.15 PM.
But, unfortunately, "well", as usual, "Indian Consulate" changed the course and " They are not giving passports on same day anymore". They are giving a specific date (usually after a week time), on which date either you can personnaly go there... .... ..... and collect your passport
Otherwise, they will mail your passport to the address you gave (I think you need to pay some $$$ more for this... along with your fee for renewal i opted to go back and collect my passport personnally, to avoid any unwanted situations).
I saw many people were enquiring about (i also, tried a lot to get this info...) photograph size that you need to submit. They (NY Consulate) were accepting 2'' x 2''.
Just in case, if they ask for specific 3.5 cm x 3.5 cm photo, there is one small self-operated photo booth inside consulate office, you can get 4 copies of 3.5x3.5cm photos for $5 (carry either $5 bill or $1 bills ... no coins)... also carry a small sissors to trim the photos. ( I managed it from my local area camera shop...) Also, you can see some address displayed on consulate notice board (i do not remember...), where you can get the photos.

Guys, this all from my experiance, if any one, on later date, get the passport on the same day, please do post the details and let the users know about it.

Guys, please confirm with consulate (better way of communicating with them is by email rather than phone) about "same day" passport returns and plan accordingly.... I lost 2 of my day-offs for this, otherwise, i could have saved one...

Appreciate the information you've provided. Yeah, you're right these agencies change the rules and you've no clue on what they'll do next.

You can change the background in Adobe Photoshop and then use MS Word to print the photos on photo-paper with the correct dimensions.

MS Word allows you to re-size the photos properly as required.
