Queries on OCI,Indian passport cancellation etc.

I am a US Citizen now and got my US passport. My Indian passport which is technically cancelled now still has my divorced spouse's name on it in the last page. I am planning to apply for OCI (Overseas Citizenship of India) now and want to send all my documents to the Indian Embassy. I am single now and will be marrying soon.

My question is:
a. Can I request the Indian embassy to take out the divorced spouse's name and get a divorce endorsement on my Indian passport since I became a US Citizen and got US passport? I also would like to know if this can be done simultaneously when I apply for my OCI? Or, is it not necessary for me to actually take out the divorced spouse's name from my Indian passport anymore?

b. Can I also request the Indian embassy to cancel my Indian passport by sending it while I apply for my OCI?

a, b - both unnecessary!

For both, a, b - not necessary.

Your Indian passport is cancelled, so all information within it is cancelled.

Indian consulate does offer this free service to officially "cancel", meaning stamp cancelled on your Indian passport if you send it for your OCI application. However, it is not necessary.

Personally, I would not send the Indian passport anywhere until you get the OCI done full and final!
