I need some additional information regarding documention for OCI card. I am claiming OCI status based on my father's birth in India. My father was born in India and left India when he was a teen. I was not born in India - currently US citizen. I have my father's birth certificate from India. I do not have his India passport from when he was a teenager. Local US consulate is requesting his India passport for OCI documentation. My father lived in a very small, very rural village and there are no school records. He did not own property in India. He did not attend college in India. He was born in India, was an Indian citizen and lived in India. Any idea how I can proceed next? What other kinds of documentation can I provide? Not able to connect with "live" person at local India Consulate. Thanks. Olvia

OCI from India
Do understand that the OCI card is actually processed and issued from India and not from the local CGI like a PIO card.
You may be able to get away without your father's passport by showing additional documentation like an affidavit, his school/college leaving certificate, his India election card etc.
The idea is that they need multiple documents to establish the facts.
Usually the passport is considered the best document, but there are many who do not have one and this is not a mandatory requirement.
Hope this is helpful.
Good luck.
