  • PIO Application - Question 14

    Folks,

I will be applying for a PIO card for my daughter very soon, and question 14 for some reason seems very confusing to me.

I have been in usa for 8 yrs and still hold indian passport and so on...my wife has been here for 4 yrs and she still holds indian passport. Both are born in India and are indian citizens. Her parents did visit once, but my parents did not. (All of us are indian citizens by the way).

My daughter however is born here and we have her US passport.

What should be my answer to question 14?

Thanks for your time in advance.

P.S - I am planning to send copies of parents passports, daughter's US passport, her birth certificate, and her social security card copy as it has the address(and it can serve as proof of address). any other documents, please suggest.

    What is the ...

... question 14 by the way. You provided a lot of details but did not publish the question 14 itself.

That would make it easy for the advisers to save time and energy in finding and going through the form.

    Thank you for understanding.

question on PIO form 14 is -

Whether the applicant or either of his/her parents or any of his/her grand parents or great grand parents was born and was permanently resident in India as defined in the Government of India Act, 1935 * at any time. If so, following details may be indicated:

Date of birth: _________________Place of birth_______________________
      Proof of residence etc: _____________________________

(Enclose photocopy of relevant documents; Note: If applicant is the spouse of a citizen of India or a person of Indian origin, his/her particulars should be indicated).

        Q14. PIO Application ...

... yes, you would definitely mention yes as that's the fact.

You and your family were permanently residing in India and have been "temporarily" living in the US for only 8 years.

If you still have any doubts send me a message through this system.

        Hope this helps you.

            Great ...

            ... you got it!

For documentation, these are what I would use (together, if possible)

(Any or all of the available documents)

            1. Passport
            2. Birth certificates
            3. School/college leaving certificates
            4. Utility bills - show proof of residence
            5. Election Commission card
            6. PAN card (best proof)

The idea is to present enough evidence to show cause but not overload with too much of it either.

Good luck to you and your baby.
