Passport Expiration and International Travel

Hi,

My Indian passport expires in August, 2008. I reside in the USA and my status in USA is green card. I want to travel to India in June, 2008 and return July, 2008.

Is there any problem with traveling so close to the passport expiration date?

Should I renew my passport before traveling?

No problems with your travel as long as the passport is valid. You can renew it if you have the time.

Thanks for your reply. The problem with renewing is I may not get the passport back in time for travel (I am unable to determine the current processing time for passport renewals, note that my current passport was issued by CGI Houston in 1998). If it is ok to travel with my current passport as you have said, I would rather do that and renew upon my return.

Most of the consulates issue the renewed passport in 7 days to 1 month max and if you appear in person, it works faster, in case you want it renewed before you leave.
