OCI - Arrest in 2001

I am in a critical situation.

I have just become US Citizen. I am planning to apply for OCI.

I have been arrested in 2001 for shoplifting and case was dismissed upon paying 50$ fine. I have not pleaded guilty.

On the OCI application form, 23rd question asking to enter the crime details.

Is this will impact my OCI? Please help.

Do I have to talk to anyone? What are the documents I should submit.

Though, it will not ...

... affect your OCI application, you do need to be truthful as of the time of sending the application.

If required, you can attached supporting documentation and an explanatory letter clarifying your position.

Is the process will take long process since I have this in record.

I am planning to get the certified copy of the court record. And also write a letter saying what happened.

Try expunging it. That will not help for immigration related stuff but will help you in jobs, background checks etc.
