  • Docs needed for PIO Card

I am planning on applying for PIO card for my daughter born here to NY Indian Consultate - THROUGH MAIL. So, wanted to be sure I send everything correctly. Looking at their website, i am not clear on the docs they are expecting. Can someone please share what docs need to be sent and if they need to be notarized. I believe passport copies need to be sent (applicant and parents) but do I get them notarized, if so all pages? Also, are there other docs that need to be sent - Do they need to be notarized?

    Many thanks for your help!

Bank notary is saying they cant legally sign photocopies of passport. I dont want to send the original passports in mail to the consulate and risk losing them. Please let me know what else I should do to attest/ notarize the copies of passport (my child, mine and my wife)

      Thanks!

        Please use ...

.... advance search and you'll find the answer.

You can have your signature notarized, not the document. That's fine and acceptable.

In worst scenarios you can self attest the documents and they'll be acceptable.

        Take care.

I asked them specifically if they can notarize if I sign, they said they can't on these photocopies. They will only do if it's a true application form that explicitly states it needs notary signature.

Can I just self attest and send them? I wanted to be sure they dont send my docs back because I dont have them notarized or the originals are not there.

          Thanks!

            Well, ...

... you can try another bank or a private notary, their fees are very nominal.

As I mentioned earlier, if nothing else works, selft attest the documents and you should be good.

I've known a few people to self attest the docs and they've not had any problems.

            Take care.

Make a copy of the passport.

In the blank area, you write
"This is the true copy of my original US passport." (Or whatever other document may be.)

Then sign and date the document.

Below that, ask the notary to write something like, e.g.,
              "State: New Jersey
              County: Morris
On October 26, 2008, Mr. John Smith signed this in front of me at Chase Bank".

              Notary signature and seal

If possible, approach some Indian person working in the bank (or other places) and they are more likely to understand this type of requirement. If you can't find such person, try to explain the same thing to whoever you can find. Try to stresss that they are not notarizing the document, but just your signature".

                Try private notary publics

Certain banks will not notarize certain documents. Varies by banks. You will have better luck with a private notary public.. search the yellowpages. Even some UPS, Kinkos stores will have notary services too. Notary rules are different by states as well, if you could cross the border you will find different answers.
