Passport Changes Que

I am looking into a few queries for our HR department. I hope you can answer a query. If an Indian passport is cancelled or renewed does the passport number change? Also, if the first passport was issued in India and second one in London, does the newest one i.e. the second one which is issued in London have a different passport number.

If the passport was cancelled and you get new one, you get new passport number.

If the passport was renewed, you may get the new number or the same number, depending upon whether it is the first renewal or not.
