  • Delay in PIO Card applied at Washington DC

    Hi Guys,
I need some advice here. I had sent the PIO card application for my son with all the required documentation including the original US passport of my son (as mentioned in the form) by USPS to Indian Embassy at Washington DC. As per the USPS tracking number the package was delivered on 02 Feb. It's been 6 weeks now and I have not received the PIO card. I have called the embassy several times and whenever I get through they take down my son's name and my number and inform that someone will get in touch, but nobody does. I am worried now and I am begining to wonder whether they have received the application at all. Has anybody encountered such delays in their PIO applications and how have they got to know the status?

My relative lives in DC, would her going to the embassy help?

    Please help

Sorry to hear about the delay. You're one step ahead of the Houston consulate, which doesn't even answer the phone, though...

If the USPS said it's delivered, it's a pretty safe bet that it was done.

Delays don't seem to be unusual, though I got my PIO from Houston in a little over four weeks. Having your relative visit the consulate might be worth a go if it's convenient, but don't be surprised if someone cites confidentiality and won't release information.

    Best of luck.

In my opinion, Indian embassy in Washington DC is the fastest and most efficient regarding PIO/OCI while Indian consulate in Houston is the slowest, least efficient and worst in even picking up the phone.

i had the same experience.i mailed it on jan 17th.i started calling them from feb 25th.CS people couldn't give me the status. Finally today i spoke with somebody who gave me the tracking number.its with usps.they didn't deliever it,not even left a notice. Fortunately they had the mail with them(they usually send it back within 1 week ).so just now i went to usps and collected it.

My suggestion is ask the embassy for the tracking number.(if they cashed ur cashier's check, they should have processed it.but they don't have the datas maintained).then check with ur local USPS.

        good luck
