I am an American citizen visiting Mumbai on a tourist visa, I plan to marry an Indian citizen in India as soon as possible.

Would this make me eligible to get an OCI card, so that I can be allowed to work? And will the OCI card allow me to stay in India past the duration of my tourist visa?

Unless you qualify for OCI on your own (such as Indian origin), you can't apply for OCI just based on marriage to Indian citizen.
