tourist visa to PIO - urgent

My daughter(us citizen)is on tourist visa in India. Its 5 years multiple entry visa valid for 180 days at a time. This 180 days is getting over on 20th august !!

Can we apply for PIO from India before the visa expires . will it be legal to do that though the card might take time to come ....

Also i have read long term visa people can apply for PIO card from India does this indian tourist visa fit into this cateogry .

Can she stay in India after 20th august if the PIO is in process ....

Iam also in the same situation please let me know if you get any responce. As per my knowledge if your son is below 14yrs he may stay here after 180 days.
