To whom it may concern,
I am a Person of Indian Origin, most definitely. I know that I am eligible for a PIO card as such. However, my brother has received an OCI card and he is telling me that I should apply for one as well. He was born in India and I was NOT. Is my status different than his???
On reviewing the basic information IMMIHELP provides, it is stated that a person who is born overseas of TWO Indian citizens is NOT eligible for an OCI card. What is the status of a person born to ONE Indian parent??? I am born of ONE Indian parent and one American parent (mother); I was born here in the United States, however. Am I eligible for an OCI card???
I do not want to apply for an OCI card just to be turned down, as I won't have access to my passport for the duration of the application. I would rather have the benefits of an OCI card than a PIO card, and will willing turn over my passport if I could be positive that I am eligible for an OCI card. Otherwise I will have to settle for a PIO card.
Please advise. Thank you for your consideration.
