  • name mismatch in passport - OCI

I have the following in my indian passport

    surname : YYYY X YYYYY
    Givenname: ZZZZZ

My name in US i YYYY X YYYYY

My name as per birth certificate is YYYY X YYYYY.

All along in US i used YYYY X YYYY. My US passport is also YYYY X YYYYY
which stands for first and last name.

My firstname appears under sir name in indian passport.

Since there is a mismatch now they are saying i should advertise name change in US. My question is as far as US or me there is no name change.

Its the way the name is written in Indian passport that is creating a mismatch.

Can you please help me or show me some directions.

    Name mismatch

    Hi,

I only had my first name in the Indian Passport. My parents last name was in the passport though. I sent my tenth grade transcription along with my application. The Consulate sent me a notification back to fill out the name change affidavit along with two copies of Naturalization certificate. My application was accepted and OCI granted. Hope this helps. Good Luck!

Thank you very much for you reply.

Can you please tell me which consulate is this ?

They did not ask you to publish in papers both here and in india ?

Did you communicate this through an email ?

        SF consulate

No, I was not asked to publish in US or Indian newspaper. Fortunately.

I got a mail from SF consulate of what they needed and I mailed it back to them (name change affidavit and naturalization certificate)

          Thank you very much sbansa,

Just one more question...you said they emailed you the requirement. Was it after you communicated to them via email about your name mismatch or
did they email you based on application papers you sent by postal mail.

I am asking because they sent the entire application back to me without any email. I am wondering if I should let them know via email my name mismatch before I send them the application.

          Your reply is deeply appreciated.

          respectfully

            Hi,

They sent me the request by mail regarding the requirements for name change. They did not send my application back. I guess it depends on the person who is processing it. I was lucky. Hope this helps.

I have a similar question. I have a minor change in my middle name after naturalization (due to the way it was on my birth certificate.)
E..g In Indian passport it was
              Surname = Holkar
              Given Names = Mahadji Mahipatrao

              The naturalization Certificate has
              Last Name = Holkar
              First Name = Mahadji
Middle Name = Mahipat (The last "rao" got removed)

Will this call for the advertisement, affidavit etc?
