  • Address change after applying PIO card

    Hello,

I want to apply for a PIO card at the embassy in DC but will likely relocate to a different state (not known right now) within a month or two (not known right now). Considering this situation, is it safe to apply for a PIO card? I am not sure if the passport will get forwarded to my new address since it is a sensitive document or is there a way I can inform the embassy about this address change while the PIO card is still being processed?

    Please help.

    Thanks,
    PS

You can inform the embassy. But if you move to a location which is under the jurisdiction of another Indian consulate, they may have to transfer the documents and that may take a much longer time.

Usually embassy/consulates will not mail documents to an address outside their jurisdiction. Neither they transfer the documents to the concerned embassy/consulate for processing. If they find that your current residance is out of their jurisdiction, they will just reject and return the application. So better you finalize your location first and apply in the mission that serves your locality.
