    Two new policies went into effect on Friday (May 07).

    1. Renunciation of Indian citizenship and surrender certificate for OCI/PIO cards - /indian-citizenship-renunciation-certificate/

    Is the first requirment 'Surrender Certificate' only from Indian Consulate, NYC?? Anyone know?

    It doesn't seem to be listed on the other US consulate sites, but it's certainly a requirement, even if it takes a while to be posted.

      could be other US consulate will catch up as I was told that the SFO consulate requirements are changing so may be that is one change.

        How will they deal with people who surrendered a passport 20 years ago and didn't receive any surrender certificate?

          Possible photocopies of the passport, any record of the passport number, an affidavit laying out the reasons why the passport cannot be submitted. Not having it will probably mean a longer processing period, but it can still be done...

            I got a email yesterday to send in passport to obtain the surrender certificat... at most of all it cost $175 ...

            I already had sent in my renounciation form when I got my Visa and my passport was cancelled.. not sure if i have to send in the passport again.?

            I have sent an email to Mrs Pushpa kumar... hopefully I will get a response..

              Surrendering Indian Passport

              Do i need to get the renounciation form attested by notrary public? If yes, Is it a requirement that the notraty public be an indian?
              I am planning to apply for OCI. Can i apply send both oci application form and renounciation form together?
