  • Surrender Certificate

    Hi Guys,

Me & my wife obtained OCI last year. My Indian passport is expired in 12/2005 although it was not canceled. What are the procedures? Do we still have to pay the penalties? This rule is very confusing.

Thanks for all replies in advance.

If you already got the OCI, you are all set. No further action is required for now.

If you need any other service from them in future, surrender certificate is required, and you must pay the service fee and the retention penalty.

You wont need any certificate now as you already have the OCI. Carry your OCI book & US passport. Surrender certificate may be needed down the road if you need any more services from Indian conuslate. Lets hope & pray till then that Indian Government will take this Surrender Certificate requirement back.
