Surrender Certificate Form

Should the renunciation/surrender certificate form be sent in duplicate for applying in New York consulate? Immihelp instructions (/indian-citizenship-renunciation-certificate/) says it needs to be sent in duplicate, but the instructions in the New York consulate site doesn't mention about that. Just confused. May be SFO or other consulates needs the form in duplicate....not sure. Can you please clarify.

What is the problem in sending in duplicate?

Till yesterday, the form at Indian Embassy in DC showed a different form. It has been updated today and as far as I can tell, the only change is that they have explicitly specified that the form must be filled in duplicate. NY's form is very similar and they may soon put that in their form too, but you never know.

Alternatively, I suggest that you contact the Indian Consulate in NY, confirm with them and post here for the benefit of everyone else.

One more question, when i send the duplicate form, do i need to send the supporting docs(copies of naturalization, passport etc) too in duplicate?

It appears that the form required to obtain the surrender certificate at CGNY has changed. AGAIN.

It also appears that on CGNY web site under menu choice
'Consular Services -> Passport -> Renunciation of Indian Citizenship/Surrender of Indian Passport'
they are updating the form link.

However, under the menu choice
'Consular Services -> PIO -> How to Apply -> 8th bullet link for details

points to old form XXII.

So, based on which link we follow, we may arrive at 2 different forms, collecting different set of information. It is my opinion that the first link is correct and the second one in outdated. Please let me know if above is incorrect.

It is difficult to say.

The first link you put says FINAL in it. Therefore, we may think that is the final and the latest.

However, the form in the second link is more in line with few other consulates. Therefore, we may think that is the latest.

It is anyone's guess what is going on. Why do they have to keep changing the form every day? So many desis are supposed to be talented in IT field. Why can't they sit down, think through it and make one form according to whatever they information they want to collect? It does not necessarily have to be any fancy looking.
