Surrender cert - travelling in 3 days

Hi

We are OCI card holders (issued @ CGNY) & have the cancelled Indian passports in our possession. We are travelling in 3 days. Does anyone know if

(a) we can still travel to India without the surrender certificate (will carry the cancelled Indian passports with us)
(b) or would we need to obtain a surrender certificate to be able to travel
(c) can we obtain it within a day if we visit CGNY in person?

Didnt you have to surrender the Indian passport prior to applying/getting the OCI? It is mandatory to have the surrender certificate in-order to get the OCI (this is the case here in UK).

Also who cancelled the Indian passport - CGNY? Are the cancelled Indian passports with you?

Sorry to ask you questions but to formulate a response, I need some answers.

If you just carry your valid US passports and OCI with you when you go to India, that will be okay. But dont mention anything about the cancelled Indian passport that you have with you. Dont carry the original cancelled Indian passports with you but just carry photocopy of them (even carrying photocopy is not essential since you have OCI)

Didnt you have to surrender the Indian passport prior to applying/getting the OCI? ..... We did surrender it at the OCI application window @ CGNY and the personnel stamped the passports as "cancelled" and returned it to us immediately. They were doing this with every applicant. That was the normal process for accepting OCI applications at the time .... 6 months ago.

Also who cancelled the Indian passport - CGNY? .... Yes.

Are the cancelled Indian passports with you? .... Yes
