  • OCI minor with US Passport but without Naturalization certificate

Me and my wife became U.S citizens and got our Naturalization certificate and US passports, my son who is 12 years old was born in India and became US citizen through our US Citizenship. He doesn't have the "Naturalization certificate" .. we are applying for "Renunciation" of India passport and there is a field on the form "Date of Naturalization"? couple of questions:
    - Is Naturalization certificate a must for my son?
    - if not, what should I fill in this form?

Thanks a lot for your kind help

    - Is Naturalization certificate a must for my son?
    >>> He is a derivative based on your citizenship. He will never get a "naturalization" certificate. So NO, you do not need one. Just make sure to attach your certificate and a letter that states he automatically became a citizen, when you gained yours.
If you must get him his own certificate, then apply for N600 - "Application for certificate of Citizenship". It costs almost $1,000 (and is a waste, considering he already possesses a US passport)

    - if not, what should I fill in this form?
Attach a copy of your citizenship certificate.

We were explicitly told by USCIS office to apply for N-600 for my minor child as having an US passport is NOT a proof of citizenship. N-600 is not a waste. Your son may face issues at places if he is ask to submit his proof of citizenship (eg. during college admissions - especially for grants etc.) - the wait time is almost a year, so it's good to get it done.
