Surrender Certificate

Hi Friends,
If the Indian passport is Cancelled by the Consulate, before the new rule of getting surrender certificate came into effect, do we still need to get the surrender certificate to obtain OCI/PIO cards?

That was exactly the info I was looking for. I had mine cancelled on Jan 2010 while applying for the Tourist visa.

I am going to send my OCI application with the copy of the Indian passport with the cancelled stamp on it and hopefully they wont hold it up for surrender certificate.

You may not need surrender cert for oci/pio now, but its always a good idea to obtain one for any future correspondance with the consulate. SC has to be applied separately. Rules and fees can change anytime, better do it at the earliest.

Need Help : SC

Hi,
I Have US Citizenship From Neutralization, After Obtaining my Citizenship I applied for a PIO card and for that I sent my Indian Passport with the form. When i received My PIO card I also received my old Indian passport with stamped in side at multiple location " Canceled " . I got my PIO Card in year 2006 .
My Q is :
1) Do I Have to still Get SC
2) If Yes Than How Much Do i Have To Pay and Right Procedure
3) If No Than Will Not Having a SC create a Problem At the time of Renewal of PIO Card.

My Brother Also had become a Citizen and He took Visa For India and in doing so send in his indian Passport and also got it Stamped Canceled in year 2008 -2009. Does he Need a SC . Also Same As Above Q on His case.

Please Advice in to the matter.
