  • Q) about OCI Part-B "have you/any member ... applied for OCI earlier"

    I have questions about what to enter for the following question on the OCI application, Part-B. The first question asked in Part-B is:

    Have you/any member of your family applied for Overseas Citizen of India registration earlier? If YES, give details.
    * Name and Relationship
    * Status: Granted/ Not Granted

    Background: I applied for the OCI recently but VFS rejected / sent it back due to a typo on the form (they insisted I cannot re-submit the form with the corrected typo and that I must fill in a fresh OCI application from
    https://ociservices.gov.in/ and also then with VFS).

    My Questions / Doubts
    Q1) Does the above count as an application, i.e., should I enter "Yes" to the question Have you/any member of your family applied for Overseas Citizen of India registration earlier? (followed by status of "Not Granted")?
    - It feels odd to say "not granted" when it was VFS rejecting it rather than the government.
    - On the other hand, there is a valid government reference number (which I cannot re-use, since VFS insists I must fill in a new government form/ application) that was submitted. And my OCI was application was sent back / rejected by VFS due to the typo I made on the form.

    Q2) For the same question, if I enter "Yes", it asks for the "Name and Relationship" of applicant. (In this case - it is myself). However, when I try to enter my own name followed by, (Self) in parentheses, the form does not permit it. In fact only alphabets and spaces are permitted in "Name and Relationship" field (no commas or dashes are permitted either). Should I:
    A) Only enter my name and omit "relationship"?
    B) Enter my name followed by self (e.g., something like: JIM SHARMA SELF). Is that confusing and will it be rejected?

    Thank you for any assistance provided.

    If you had submitted a form earlier in the sense that you filled out the government application form, uploaded the docs on govt of india website, generated an application number, etc. but now you're filling out a new one with a new application number then the answer to this would be YES.

    The website form does not allow any symbols, so I would say put your name and self as the relationship.

    I'd also suggest to email the consulate(not vfs) and ask them if you can have to do something different. This way you're covered in case of any issues raised afterwards.

      Hi,

      I made a mistake in part b application for new
      OCI application at VFS global and submitted part b by mistake, how do I edit my application. I have not submitted the documents physically or send out passport yet to VFS global.

      the mistake was for “OCI Part-B "have you/any member ... applied for OCI earlier"

      the question was “name and relationship”, I entered only the relationship details without the name and added only brother and click on submit without adding name.

      please suggest what should be done to correct this and if this is critical for my application to get rejected by VFS for name missing of family member, I put in the right registration number and issue place for my family member with relationship specified, I missed out the first part which is the name, can they still figure out the name with the registration number I provided and this would not be a problem or else do I need to submit a new form?

      is it even required to specify my brother as yes in the question, or should I select the option as no for “
      "have you/any member ... applied for OCI earlier"

      thank you

        Have you already done the online payment with VFS?
        If not then, I'd suggest to create a fresh application with the accurate details. From what I've observed, there is no editing option on the OCI website once you submit it. VFS may not reject it but I'd think that the Indian government may reject it for incomplete details.

            So I read the question about family member to mean any blood relatives and spouse. If you have the knowledge that your brother has applied for OCI then I'd say disclose it because it's always better to be truthful on any government application, especially one where you're affirming the information under oath.

            Any reason you do not want to disclose it?
