OCI + Renunciation Simultaneously

Hi guys,

Fellow Indian here. I am a US citizen now and was wondering if you would be kind enough to help me understand if I can apply for OCI directly with the renunciation application as well. For an OCI application, they ask for proof of renunciation - is that just the form you fill out and download online, and can one apply for both OCI and Renunciation together? Or does one have to first apply for renunciation, go through the whole mailing process with VFS, and then finally once it's done and you get your stamped Indian passport back, restart another separate round for OCI?

We used to be able to do that a few years ago. But, not anymore.

You have to apply for renunciation first, and after receipt of the surrender certificate, you can then apply for OCI. Be prepared for up to a couple months for renunciation to complete and another 2-3 months after that for OCI to be all done.
