  • OCI card expedite or travelling with expired OCI card?

    Hello,

I just realized that mine as well as kids (under 18) US passport and OCI cards have expired. We want to travel to India in about 12 weeks. However it will take about 6 weeks to get the US passport if expedited and OCI card will take about 8-10 weeks thereafter. Is it possible to expedite OCI card? Alternatively is it possible to travel to India with expired OCI card or while OCI card is still processing? How do I get this all done in 12 weeks and be able to travel to India? I will appreciate your help.

    Thanks!

Teacup You do not need to rush to get your OCI card re-issued. They have relaxed it till June 30th per this notification: https://www.cgisf.gov.in/docs/160349...t%202020-1.pdf

I would just recommend you apply for expedited US passport renewal and travel with both the new + old US passport + OCI card, it should be absolutely fine.

If your travel is after June 30th, then u have time to decide.

OCI cards have lifelong validity, they do not expire. Only the passport expires. You can travel with the OCI - just have the expired passport also handy in case the IO wants to see it. Most of the time they do not care. You can have the OCIs updated after you return from your trip.

OCI Misc Service takes about 4-6 weeks. I think you have enough time to get it done normally, no need to expediate. If you apply now, you should get it back by end of April.
