So, 8-weeks from mailing out the application to receiving the OCI - that's not too bad, I guess. Considering that the official processing time for new OCI is 5-6 weeks at the Consulate, and the slow pace at which VFS seems to work, I'd say a 8-week turn around sounds about right.

I am still waiting for my renunciation, applied on 5/3, submitted to Houston Consulate on 5/6 and nothing so far. The official processing time for renunciation is 6-7 days at the Consulate, and my application is already about 12 days at the Consulate. Anyway to follow-up directly at the Houston Consulate? No point is asking VFS, they just repeat the web status and want to charge $3 a minute.

Depends on the location. Mine was Washington. I applied March 18th, mailed out same day. My Date of Acknowledgement was April 2nd on the Govt website. It still says "Under Process" on the Govt website.
