Former Indian citizen in a same sex marriage- OCI process?

Hi- My question is for other former Indian citizens who went through the OCI process.
I recently acquired US citizenship and have to give up my Indian passport. Am i married or single in the OCI application? Curious to hear how you went ahead with the OCI process. Thanks.

Same sex marriage is recognized in the US. You are filing your application for OCI in the USA, therefore, you are "married" for the OCI application.
You will follow the same process when it comes to submitting proof of marraige / spouse info (if / where asked on the OCI supporting docs)

However, please note that the OCI benefits are may not be available for your spouse and he / she may have to apply for an indian visa if they plan to travel with you

You won’t have any issues.
The problem is that your spouse won’t be eligible for the OCI card. He / she will need to go through the Visa route

Thank you! Yes, he will go on a tourist visa- hopefully this works out fine for us. I have just gone through a long US citizenship process - once the OCI is done, ill be more relieved- thank you though--

The process is very easy. Make sure you strictly submit every document that is asked for

In a same sex marriage. I applied for OCI in 2018. NY CGI. Stated as Married. Provided the Marriage certificate. Accepted and processed without any issues. OCI card has my husband's name as the spouse. Didnt care to apply for OCI for him. He has been and will travel on Visa.
