OCI + Surrender Certificate

Hi,

I am planning to apply OCI at chicago, I saw for OCI we dont need to send original passport not India or US, but for surrender certificate we need to send Indian original passport. Here I got little bit confused, So once we sent both OCI + Surrender certificate application with Original India passport, they will processed Surrender certificate 1st and then send original Indian passport back to us and then we need to send both US+India passport once OCI is approved.

Am I understanding it correctly? Please guide me if missing anything or I am reading wrong stuffs.

Oci + sc

With Surrender Certificate (SC) application you send the Indian passport and copy of US passport. When your SC application is processed, they should send back the SC and your cancelled Indian passport. When OCI is apporved and ready for Visa stamp, you send the US passport.
