  • Got US citizenship and applying for OCI

I acquired US citizenship after June 1st 2010 and wish to apply for OCI card. I just received US passports. When I go online to read about required documents to get OCI, I see one requirement is to send surrender ceritificate. My question is when I apply for OCI, can I just send my passport with OCI application or do I need to apply for surrender certificate first and then apply for OCI?

    Thanks.

    Apply for OCI

You can apply for Surrender Certificate and OCI together, but getting a Surrender Certificate first and then applying for OCI is a preferred way in my opinion. It will prevent mishandling your applications as Surrender
Certificatre and OCI are processed in two different cells of CGI. If you apply for both together, anyway your OCI processing does not start until you get a Surrender Certificate.
