overstay bec of covid; want to fly to see mother ill in US- can I return to india?

Hi all,

I've overstayed in india for more than two years, was going to return but got stuck due to covid. Long story short, my mother is not well and I desperately want to fly home to see her, but worry that I will be unable to return to India due to overstay. What is the likelihood I will be banned from entry to India in future and will they give me a hard time at the airport? Please be realistic. Thank you.

I had one my friends family overstayed in India during covid last year. They were only asked to pay over stay fee and didn't hear anything about cancelling visas or anything of that nature.

Did you friend pay the overstay fee when leaving the country Or did he apply for an exit permit and pay the fees at that time? I am in the same situation and your answer may help me to take the best route. I know the duration of stay on visas were extended till Sept 31st by GOI. Look for ward for your reply. Thanks
