  • Convert E visa to OCI

    Hello,

I have seen multiple posts on entering India with e visa but didnt see latest updates though. We have plans to enter india with evisa for my son as we didnt get OCI yet and might take another couple of weeks. Assuming we enter India with e-visa that expires after 30days, I see we may not be able to extend e-visa but can we convert to OCI if we receive before 30 days through FRRO.

I also see a penalty up to $500 while exiting India but any options other than exit/re-enter while in India to convert evisa to OCI with any legal problems. Anyone encountered or heard recently? Appreciate the inputs.

    Thanks

First of all, what is the need to do so? Why not wait until you get the OCI? Why are you screwing your child's immigration history before they enter into their adulthood?

I mean no harm and can sympathize if it is an emergency but all I am trying to say is this: An overstay on one's immigration history is no joke, no matter which country. If India enters into an information sharing agreement (as already in place between multiple countries around the world!), then a lot of countries around the world will know about the overstay making your child's travel much more difficult in the future.

For others also reading this, please please don't screw up your own or your family's immigration history. It is a very serious thing. Information sharing agreements are becoming common around the world and bad points will stick with you forever

    Good luck
