  • Please help! Old US Passport on OCI Card

Hello: I am traveling to India in a few days and am hoping someone can answer my question.
    • I have a US passport and an OCI card, which was issued in 2020 for the first time (I'm am 36 years old)
    • I recently renewed my US passport and so my OCI card shows my old passport number
    • My issue is that I don't have my old US passport as US Consular Services has yet to mail it back to me. I'm due to receive it only after my date of departure
Has anyone been able to travel India with an OCI card that shows a different passport number than the one they're traveling with? I.e., has anyone managed to travel without carrying their old passport?

Any insights will are appreciated, thank you.

Why don't you fill out the Misc Services form for the passport updates? You need the correct size passport photo image and signature and a scan of your new passport which you need to upload.

Get that process rolling with the new passport information. You won't get an approval before departure but if you simply get an acknowledgement on the embassy site, you are golden and can travel with the new passport. You basically, do not even need an acknowledgement from what the officer at the Washington, DC office emailed me.

You currently do not need to carry the old passport with you (so they say) so you should be alright but you never know. BUT. If you have the application done, you have a small advantage.

You can travel with your new passport and old oci card. No issues. Don't need to have your old passport with you to travel.

      See - https://www.indianembassyusa.gov.in/pages/NjI,

Just go to the OCI services site and update your passport details online - this service is offered gratis (free). It will take a couple of months to actually process and update your OCI file, but there is no restriction on travel.

      Download the guidelines - https://www.mha.gov.in/sites/default...s_16072021.pdf
Section 3 - Updation of details, point V, addresses your concerns.
