  • Renunciation certification needed or not?

    My indian passport says "passport is canceled due to obtaining US/Foreign citizenship". Do I still need a certificate? It was stamped with that stamp on Nov 2014. It says below if a passport was surrendered after 2010, I need to also get a certificate?? Stamp is not enough??

    PROOF OF RENUNCIATION COPY • If you ever held an Indian Passport, it is MANDATORY to provide proof of the Renunciation of Indian Citizenship along with your OCI application. One of the following MUST be produced as proof: -

    ❖ Copy of the Canceled Indian Passport with a stamp stating the passport is canceled due to obtaining US/Foreign citizenship OR
    ❖ Copy of the Certificate of renunciation issued by the Embassy/Consulate of India OR
    ❖ Copy of the Deemed surrender certificate issued by the Embassy/Consulate of India Both - Cancelled/ Surrendered Passport along with the copy of the Surrender/Renunciation Certificate would be needed for Indian passports surrendered after May 31, 2010 Copy of the Surrender/Renunciation Certificate would be needed for Indian passports surrendered after May 31, 2010. If you do not have the proof of renunciation then please apply for renunciation

    You just need one or the other. Either passport or surrender certificate. You must keep that proof for lifetime. Otherwise you'll have to repeat the process again.

      Just wanted to let you know that I spoke with the VFS team today and they said that because the stamp of surrender is from 2014, I still need to get the renunciation certificate... Burrr...
