  • surrender certificate processing times

    Just FYI.

As of Nov 1st 2010, the consulate is swamped with a deluge of surrender certificate requests.

    Status of my RC application
Mailed complete application on Sep 29th 2010.
Sent email query on Nov 1st 2010 and got a prompt response. See below.

""""""Thank you for your email. Please refer to the Status Request submitted.

Due to the huge inflow of 'Renunciation / Surrender Certificate' applications, we were unable to process the applications, within the time mentioned on our website. We hope to have the applications expedited, with the assistance of more employees and by clearing applications on closed holidays. We regret the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding of the situation.

We receive a huge volume of emails. We endeavor to answer each one of those. For rendering quality service, you will, however, appreciate that we may not be in a position to entertain:
    - interim status queries if posed during the normal processing period. Processing period for different services is mentioned on our website;
    - any queries for which answers are available on our website
    - any queries by a party other than the applicant
    - any mail that does not contain the full name of the sender; his/her passport number; and his/her complete address and telephone number
    - any queries originating from the jurisdiction of other Indian Embassy/Consulates

    Thank you for your cooperation.
    """""""

I got another response to the thread as follows.

"""The application is still in process. We kindly request you to wait atleast for 1 more week(s) and write back if you don't get the passport/certificate until then. Your reference # is USASCxxxxxxx """

They have been very prompt in responding.

What is the houston consulate email id you sent your query? I see different id's ([email protected], [email protected]).

I sent the SC app on 17-Sep and have not recived the SC till now. No response to email too.

Let us know when you receive the SC.

      Thanks

Another Q, what is the USASCxxxxxxx. Does it allow any tracking?

        Thanks

USASCxxxxxxx was the reference number CGISF assigned on my followup. There was no online tracking for this. I could use it to refer to my case for further emails with them which I didnt do.

BTW I finally received my surrender certificate on 11/4 . I guess they pulled out my case after I queried on it and processed it rightaway.

good luck - we all need lots of it when dealing with paperwork.

Hmm looks like they were just waiting to be pinged about the delay!!

I pushed them on 1st Nov and here is what the tracking of my return envelop says! It was processed and shipped out as soon as I queried+pushed on it - around 2pm on 11/1.

Thanks. I thought your center was Houston.

CGISF seems to have better procedures. They are giving ref num for followups!!!

There is no response to calls or emails from Houston consulate.

                Visansi,

How did you contact CGISF? Did you use the online form as shown here - http://cgisf.org/contact/showContact.php?sendTo=renun ?

I am also waiting for my SC for about 4 weeks now. Please let me know. Thanks
