OCI Card Reissue/Renewal for Minors

I’m reviewing the process listed under the guidelines and need clarification.https://www.indianembassyusa.gov.in/pages/NjI,

Here is my situation:

1. I renewed my 5-year old son's US passport and he already has an OCI card. The new US passport has been received. (ie, on the OCI card it has the old US passport number )
2. I’m an Indian citizen.

According to the procedure, I will proceed to submit the required application via the OCI Miscellaneous Services website https://ociservices.gov.in/welcome.


Here is my question:

1. In case of an emergency , will my son be able to travel to/enter India with the existing OCI card ( that has the old passport number ) if he carries the old and the new passport?
2. Should I consider an alternate option like getting an emergency Indian Visa?

Just go ahead and apply. Once you upload all the required documentation, you may travel is what the DC embassy told me when I was contacting them of severe delays in approvals of our renewal updates.

As long as you have the application entered and in-processing, you can take your son to India. If its not in processing, you can gamble and travel on BOTH passports or take a eVisa for safety but if you have the update in process, you should be able to enter India just fine so I gather.

Your son can travel once you have submitted the online passport updation. No need to wait for confirmation that the passport update has been processed - that will take time (took almost 2 months for my kid). But there is no restriction on travel.
