  • PIO Card Timings at Sanfrancisco center.

    Hi,
I applied for my child's PIO card at the sanfrancisco center with all the required documents and sent in the original passport as mentioned in the form . ..had to mail it expedited ,as we are residents of a state under california jurisdiction for the Indian visa and other immigration purposes. On the website it says they take 15 working days from Sanfrancisco center ; the USPS website shows that the documents reached them on 27th October 2010, but we have no clue ,...as we did not receive anything as yet.......scheduled to travel on emergency in the 1st week of December.Does anyone know how much time it takes at the center. I have been trying to call them...but in vain......no replies......no message box/voice mail/ and no answers to e-mail sent from their website ...really scared as I sent the passport.

was in the same boat with NY consulate till today morning. NY consulate is supposed to process the PIO card in 4-5 days, but they took 4 weeks . I had also sent the original passport, so was worried. I understood from the other forum discussions that contacting them is waste of time. Considering that the SF consulate takes 15 days in normal situations, it might take upto 6 weeks for you to get the card. You just have to wait and see.

      Any update since?

      Hello Poster
Did you get the card back? If so, can you tell me when you received it ( exact date).

I am in very similar boat, and it's been more than 3 weeks since my application reached them.

No response to email/phone/Fax .. I live in Washington state, so going to SF is hard-option as well.

      Any advise is much appreciated.

If I go there in person, would they be willing to give me a Visa instead?

This is for my child, would I need to carry her with me for visa?

      thanks

        any updates

        Hi minarp & citizenhelp,

Have you received PIO yet? I'm also waiting for my son's PIO since 3rd Nov 2010, but no response from consulate yet. They cashed my check on 15th nov.

Is there way to check PIO status other than calling them?

I got a reply from SF Consulate on PIO

I believe if you have immediate Travel plans, the consulate would respond. Look under Consulate Contacts and send a Message to Vice Consular. I got a reply and the gentleman asked me to contact him if the PIO was not processed by the date I specified, so he can speed up the process.

            hello subhap,

thanks for your pointer...i have travel plans for christmas, so I would try contacting vice consular if I do not get anything by next 10th. Dont know whether they will entertain personal visit without appointment or not...
