is notarization required?

Hi,
I am going to renew my passport tomorrow to the washington DC indian embassy. I want to know is it necessary to notarize my marriage certificate?..If so, how do I do it?.

Not required.

All a notary does is confirm that you signed in their presence on a document. Any document on which you sign in front of them can be notarized. The notary is not vouching that it is a true copy of the original by any means.

if you are visiting personally than NO, else if you are sending via mail than for sure all the documents should be notarized except the passport copies since you would be enclosing the original.
