I am about to apply for OCI at the SFO consulate. I have an unusual name change situation.
My old Indian passport has my name listed as <Old last name> <Father's name> <Old first name> along with an <Alias name>. This follows a naming style used in Southern India. My <Alias name> is the name I am known by within my family and friends and I used the <Old first name> only for official documentation. Again, the alias was in my passport as well.
When I became a naturalized citizen in the USA, I decided to change my name as follows: <Alias> <Old last name> <Husband's last name>. I have the court order for the name change.
Do I need to advertise in newspapers before I apply (since my alias is listed in my passport as well)?
Thanks for any advice.
