travel to India with less than 2 months left on passport for expiry

I'm traveling from US to India in Dec and would be coming back on the 1st week of Jan. My Indian passport expires in Feb of 2012. I'm a GC holder, and from what I see on the US Customs and Border Security web page, I think I won't have any issues getting back into US. My concern is whether I'll face any issues leaving India. The website of Indian Consulate in NY says it'll take 6 weeks for my passport to be renewed, but I have only about 4 weeks left for my travel. I couldn't get hold of a live person there to see if this passport validity applies to me. I called up Jet Airways, thru' which I'm making this trip, and they said my passport should have a minimum of 6 months validity.

I'm really at a loss here. Any assistance would be deeply appreciated.

Minimum 6 months validity is not required for citizens of India.

I am an L1 B holder which expires in Dec 2012 .And my passport expires in Oct 2nd 2012.
Now I am planning a trip to India on March 31st , reaches India on April 2nd .(exactly six month before expiry) .And i am returning on April 17th and planning to renew my passport from India by tatkal scheme. We are travelling by Etihad via abudhabi
So my question is 1) will there be any problems entering India ?
2) Will there be any problem from airlines ?? the OP has mentioned Jet airways need 6 months validity for passports. Our travel agent didnt even ask the expiry date of passport, or its number !!!we got our tickets CONFIRMED
3) Any problems in Abudhabi-UAE ??

my passport is expiring on 5th Jan, 2013, that makes my trip falls within 3 months expiring of my passport

Am i going to have problem in entering to india
or leaving from there and coming back

Probably while coming back....why don't you just renew it as you have plenty of time?

Sunny / Dizydolly, please share your experiences. Did you encounter any problems in your travel? I have a similar situation. My passport expires in Feb 2014 and I'm traveling to India for a couple of weeks from late Nov to early Dec 2013.
