My OCI was acknowledged on Aug. 28th. I even visited the Consulate at Houston to get an answer. I was told, some one will call me in 5 to six days. There was no calls and I have no idea on, what is the problem? I had an e mail on Sep. 28th that my application is incomplete because it did not had the old Indian passport. I became a citizen in 1976 and do not remember what happened to my old Indain passport. I believe, I had to surrender it to INS as I became a citizen. I do not remember most of the things of the past after a stroke. I replied them back with the above details. I also sent different documents that could prove my Indian origin and they included educational records as well as the baptism certificate issued in India. I now plan to visit India in January for postponded Ayurvedic followup and treatment and plans to be in India for six months. Can some body advice me, if I can transfer the application to India and, what is the procedure? I thank you.

... I'm very sorry to hear about your stroke. May you recover fully and quickly.

Your best bet at the time is to get a visitor visa to India and if your stay extends more than six months, file for an extension.

If you "transfer" your OCI to India , there will be even more confusion and delays and they you will asked to run from the pillar to the post to get your OCI.

You should submit your medical documentation from your doctor indicating the stroke and that you do not know the whereabouts of your Indian passport.

You can also approach Home Ministry in India and plead your case.

Unfortunately, due to bureaucracy here, there's not too much you can really do about it except to persistently and consistently follow up.
