  • Completing Hague convention divorce

    Hi,

I'm a US citizen who had an arranged marriage to an Indian citizen. She lived here for around 6 months but was unhappy. I sent her back to India as soon as her green card travel patrol document arrived because she was threatening suicide. I sent her with 1 lac rupee, my atm card and credit cards for expenses. Big mistake, she emptied my bank account. My cousin also saw her with another man holding hands.

At this point the material damage is done and I have no interest in reconciliation. I changed my phone numbers and started with a divorce here. We proceeded according to the Hague convention, sending her summons through the Indian central authority. She submitted an answer to the court that they had no right to grant the divorce since the marriage was done in India and it was a Hindu marriage. The court here disagreed and I now have a valid divorce decree in the US.

What do I need to do to reciprocate the divorce in India? We sent the original summons, the scheduling order and the divorce decree to her through the Indian central authority per the Hague convention. She did file an answer with the court here so we know that the address is valid. I just need to know the next step to get the divorce valid in India.

    Thanks
