  • Signifance of lamp in Hinduism and alternatives

What is the significance of lighting a lamp (diya) in hinduism? If I am against it purely due to fire hazard because of wooden houses in the U.S. not because of anything against the religion, what is the suitable alternative that would achieve the same goal, whatever that is?
    Thanks & Regards

Yes. I think that the Hindu rituals are unlikely to be able to do this! Most often, fires come from smoking in bed!

Provide them with lamp and pure ghee. They'll be damn happy! To avoid fire hazards or detection by fire extinguishers, place the diya's within the glass containers. The glass should be strong and durable. You can use metal lid on top. The diya is usually used at evening and by some in mornings too, for around an hour. Not a big deal like burning the house to ashes because of lighting a diya. I know you are trying to take care of rare occurrence of incidents. Hope my suggestion helps.
