Hi, my husband and I will be immigrating to California USA in Jan 2015. My husband will have insurance through his employer after 60days. What can we do in the mean time and how can I get health insurance as I wont be working. Am I right in saying the Patriot America and/or the other insurance offered via Insubuy doesnt comply with the Obamacare requirements, therefore rendering it useless in our case. Thanks

OK, my understanding was legal immigrants had to purchase a compliant health insurance, so, just to clarify, what you are saying is I can purchase it as my sole health insurance and wont be penalised in my tax?
From what I understand it will be ok for my husband to purchase until his employee insurance kicks in, but not me for permanent insurance.

However, I can tell you that if you are able to qualify to enroll into Obamacare compliant plan, you should definitely do that and that must be your first choice. But until you are unable to do so, your only choice is to enroll into short term plans that are specifically exempt from being Obamacare compliant.

Plans such as Patriot America etc. are not meant to be permanent insurance and should never be purchased as an alternative to domestic plans that are Obamacare compliant.
