  • Coverage in the US

Our permanent residence is in Panama but we spend 5-6 months a year in the US then 3-4 months in Canada and 3-4 months in Panama. Does that mean we will be uninsured for a period of time with your program ? or are we adequately protected since we do not exceed six months in any one country

As long as you choose the coverage as 'Worldwide', you will be covered everywhere in the world as long as stay for less than 6 months in US.

You can buy it online at https://www.insubuy.com/expatriate-health-insurance/

      A few more questions.

      1) Maybe I am reading it wrong but it seems that after three years of coverage the lifetime maximum benefit drops by 50% to 2.5 from 5 million. Is that true?

      2) It says that Applicants must be outside the US or Canada at the time of application. We left Panama to the US April 7th , entered Canada July 6th and will be here until until Mid October then back in the US until January 8th before going back to our home in Panama. Does this then preclude us from setting this up until we return to Panama ? Our current policy expires October 31 and we were hoping to start even earlier

      3) We have one addition (our Nanny) to our family medical coverages that we would like to start right away but are considering allowing our current policy with William K Russell lapse rather than change it half way. Can this be done while keeping the advantages of the group deductibles when application is made at once?

      4) Despite your assurances that we are covered if we are less than 6 months in the US, when I read the policy information it says “In addition, the insured person(s) must reside outside the United States and Canada at least 6 months during any given 12 month period to meet the eligibility requirements of an insured person(s). if the insured Person(s) resides in the United States and Canada longer than 6 months during any 12 month period their coverage shall immediately terminate. If you combine the time we spend in Canada and the US it is more than 6 months and the policy reads is a little ambiguous so I want to be absolutely certain we are buying appropriate coverage for our circumstances

      Sincerely

We all hold Canadian passports and usually use the Canadian passport when traveling but my children and wife have several. My wife was born in Brazil and I was born in Canada but both children were born in Panama which is why it is the way it is.

We have taken advantage of all the countries laws to maximize flexibility for our children.

          My Nanny is Colombian.

We are all resident in Panama since 2004

          1) wife - Canadian, Brazilian,

          2) daughter - Canadian, Brazilian, Panamanian,

          3) Son - Canadian, Brazilian Panamanian,

          4) Nanny - Colombian

Based on the information you provided, I would suggest you ignore the plan 'Reside Prime' and consider other ones such as 'Citizen Secure' or 'Global Medical Insurance', available at https://www.insubuy.com/expatriate-health-insurance/

            That is because

            1. Coverage does not go down after 3 years.
2 & 4. They are only concerned about the time spent in US and not Canada. For non U.S. citizens, even within the US, there is no restriction of spending less than 6 months in the US. As long as you are not eligible for domestic plan, you can continue these plans.

            To further answer your questions,
            3. Nanny can't be included in the same application. You can do one application for yourself, wife and children and another for your nanny. There won't be any difference in premiums anyway.

Please feel free to contact us at any time if you have any other questions.
