  • Very worried , need help badly

    Hello,
I have been caught shoplifting at a chain store in UK, My first and definitely the last shameful act. I’m so guilty about, had no intentions to do so but don’t know why I had perform this shameful act.

I’m on student visa in UK.

Cant stop thinking about it since it happened, Continuously crying and very worried about the consequences.

I was shopping at the store, had paid for all items except clothes worth GBP 30, as soon as I left the store, a guy (without uniform) from security stopped me saying "you know why I have stopped you” and immediately took me to into a room, there they checked all my stuff and asked me to take out the items which I dint pay for. Later he took a copy of my ID’s, and noted each and every detail like what I was wearing, my appearance, my local + home address, emails id, time etc. They also have everything in CCTV footage. They even clicked my photo.

NO POLICE WERE CALLED, Neither they said that I’m banned from the store !

After they took all my details, he gave me a preprinted letter of RLP (retail loss prevention) saying that I would receive a letter from this company stating that I would need to pay the penalty whatever RPL is going to charge me. I said OK, I apologized because I was extremely embarrassed and then a security guy had escorted me till the exit.

He also said if you are giving me the incorrect address ‘I’ll call the police’, but I had given the correct local address where I’m staying in UK but incorrect home address.

I’m going to apply for my non-immigrant visa for US shortly, I’m really worried and clueless that how is this going to effect me in future relating to my visa applications and employment. Will this have any impact on buy background checks ??

Pleaseeeeeeeee help me, I’m really in a messed up condition.

    hi

I understand your situation. One thing u have to appreciate the act is already happed. Now u have to come out of it.if u press the panic button then thing may go wrist. Instead again go to the company personal office. Try to meet senior officer in the security department and say them sorry. Tell them about our intention. Show then u r ready to pay any penalty at the shop level itself. Early to meet and speak to the concern if matter will br closed at the company /store level itself. Once it is closed then there is no question of police complaint and background cheque.

This is my opinion and not the legal advise.
