Can you tell me what a condominum really means. We are planning to buy our house but we are not planning to invest a lot since it's just a one income family. Can you please tell which is cheaper and best for first time buyers like us : ranch, condo or townhouse.

condo

condo is something like a flat in india - a full flat with everything in it, like washer/dryer etc. it can be single floor or multiple

you need to consider a townhome (may also be called a condo)

condo has a homeowner's association which takes care of outside maintenance and they charge you a fee for the same. this is over and above your property taxes

Apartment = Flat that are owned by some company and everyone is renting it.
