Passport Expiring...Travelling with kids

Hello,
Firstly ....you guys are doing a great job.
I'm a Green card holder and currently in India on vacation( came by Sep 1st week)
My passport is expiring by Feb 2012 and I'm planning to come back to US by mid Dec.
My question is
Do I need to get my passport renewed in India or Can I wait to get it renewed there in US?
If I can wait Will there be any problems at port of entry?
My kids are US citizens and have valid passports and PIO cards.

You can either get it renewed in India or in the U.S. whatever suits you.

Just to clarify ...Does your answer mean I can travel and there won't be any problem at US port of entry?

One more thing I came to know is there might be problem at Indian Immigration while leaving the country ..Do you know anything about that..if not would you pls direct me to place where I can get the info...

No issues. You can travel as long as the passport is valid. Nothing to worry. The 6 month rule that you keep hearing is just a myth and it is posted on immihelp site.
