Entry rule for Schengen visa

Hello,

I am a citizen of India and have to first travel to Bulgaria and then to either Spain OR Italy and then back to India.
The Bulgarian foreign ministry help line has confirmed that they allow valid Schengen visa holders to enter into Bulgaria.

So, I am applying for a Schengen visa.

In such a case is "single entry" Schengen visa sufficient or I need to apply for multiple entry Schengen visa ?

It's always advisable to ask for a multiple entry Schengen visa.
